Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into MOXY NYC Times Square, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The lobby hits you with this industrial-chic vibe that’s part Brooklyn warehouse, part European hostel, but in a good way. It’s actually refreshing after dealing with all the stuffy marble lobbies you usually find around here. The check-in process was surprisingly smooth too, which… well, anyone who’s tried to check into a Times Square hotel on a Friday evening knows that’s no small feat.

What really surprised me about this place is how they’ve managed to make a 4-star hotel feel approachable without being cheap. The rooms are compact – I mean, we’re talking Manhattan real estate here, so you know what you’re getting into – but they’re smartly designed. Everything has a purpose, and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected. The bathrooms are tiny but functional, with decent water pressure (thank god). You can hear some street noise, especially if you’re facing 7th Avenue, but that’s just part of the Times Square experience. Pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, though the double-paned windows do help.

The location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the actual Times Square chaos, but far enough down 7th that you’re not dealing with the worst of the tourist crowds right outside your door. The subway situation is great – you’ve got the N, Q, R, W, S lines at Times Square-42nd Street, plus the 1, 2, 3 at Times Square. Getting anywhere in the city is easy. There’s a decent bodega on the corner of 36th and 7th if you need late-night snacks, and Joe Allen (the theater district restaurant) is just a few blocks north if you want somewhere locals actually eat.

What I really appreciated was the rooftop bar – it gets packed during peak tourist season, but if you time it right (like weekday afternoons), you can actually enjoy the skyline views without feeling like you’re in a sardine can. The staff seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn, the front desk guy actually gave me specific train advice instead of just pointing toward the subway entrance. Little things like that matter when you’re trying to navigate the city. The 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what it promises without any major surprises. For Times Square, that’s honestly pretty impressive.
