The Washington by LuxUrban Overview

So I’ve stayed at The Washington by LuxUrban a handful of times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. First time I walked into the lobby, I’ll admit I was a bit underwhelmed – it’s not trying to be flashy or Instagram-perfect, which is actually refreshing in a city where every hotel seems to be competing for the most dramatic chandelier. The vibe is more understated elegance, if that makes sense. You know what I mean – the kind of place where business travelers feel comfortable but it doesn’t scream “corporate hotel.”

The location on Albany Street is really what makes this place special, though most people don’t realize it until they’re actually staying there. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Stone Street (which, if you haven’t been, is this amazing cobblestone strip with outdoor dining that feels like you’ve stumbled into old New York), and the South Street Seaport is right there too. I mean, you can grab coffee and a bagel and be watching the sunrise over the East River in about five minutes. The subway situation is pretty ideal – you’ve got the R and W at Whitehall-South Ferry, plus the 4, 5, and 6 at Bowling Green, so getting anywhere in Manhattan is actually easier than from a lot of Midtown hotels.

What I really appreciate about The Washington is that it feels like it was designed by people who actually travel for work. The rooms aren’t huge – this is New York, after all – but everything is thoughtfully laid out. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which you’d be surprised how many boutique hotels mess up. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, including in the elevators, and there are enough outlets that you’re not crawling around on the floor trying to charge your phone. Check-in is usually pretty smooth, though I’d avoid arriving right around 3 PM when everyone else is trying to check in too.

One thing to know – if you’re sensitive to street noise, ask for a room facing away from Albany Street. It’s not terrible, but you’ll hear some traffic, especially on weekday mornings. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after business hours though, which is nice if you’re trying to get some sleep. Parking is… well, it’s the Financial District, so don’t expect miracles, but there are a couple of garages nearby if you’re driving in.

The whole area has really come alive in the past few years – there’s actually decent nightlife now, not just the tourist traps near the water. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to some of the best food in the city without dealing with the chaos of Midtown or the pretension of some other neighborhoods. For the price point and the 4-star experience, it delivers what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. That 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s a solid choice that does the job well, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Through the windows of the 16th floor of the hotel there is a wonderful view of the World Trade Center building. The hotel is close to metro stations, shopping centers: Target, Whole foods, TJ. MAXX and others. I recommend eating: Leo's Bagels, Joe's Pizza, Conwell Coffee Hall.
