Walking into the Lotte New York Palace, you’re immediately hit with this sense of old-world grandeur that somehow doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious. The place has this interesting history – it was actually built around the historic Villard Houses from the 1880s, and you can still see those gorgeous Gilded Age bones throughout the lobby. I mean, you’re literally standing in what used to be someone’s mansion parlor, which is pretty wild when you think about it.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the Times Square chaos. You’re right on Madison Avenue, so you can walk to Fifth Avenue shopping in about three minutes, Central Park is a easy stroll north, and Grand Central is just a few blocks south when you need to catch a train. What I really appreciate is that you’re close enough to everything but the street itself isn’t completely insane with traffic noise – well, it’s still New York, so there’s always some honking, but it’s manageable. The rooms on higher floors actually have some pretty spectacular views, especially if you get one facing south toward the Chrysler Building.

The service feels genuinely attentive without being overbearing. Check-in was smooth, and the staff seems to actually know the neighborhood well – they gave me solid restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. The rooms themselves are spacious by Manhattan standards, with those tall ceilings that make you feel less claustrophobic. I stayed there during Fashion Week once and it was buzzing with industry people, which was fun to observe, though it did make the elevators a bit slower. The fitness center is decent sized and doesn’t feel like an afterthought, plus there’s a spa if you’re into that sort of thing. One small critique – the WiFi can be a bit spotty on some floors, nothing terrible but worth mentioning if you’re planning to work from your room. The Palace Court restaurant downstairs is actually pretty good for hotel dining, though honestly, with all the incredible restaurants within walking distance, you’d be missing out if you didn’t venture out. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is literally across the street if you want to pop in, and there’s something kind of magical about staying somewhere where you can see those spires from your window. It’s one of those places that feels distinctly New York in the best way possible.

  Beautiful, elegant hotel near Rockefeller Center. Lovely views of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. Room was well appointed and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our needs when family came to visit. The lounge is the best place to enjoy a quiet drink from Troubles Trust, which can get noisy. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Lobby and bars are lovely-check out the Gold Room!
