WestHouse Hotel New York Overview

You know what caught me off guard about WestHouse? It’s tucked right there on 55th Street, basically in the thick of Midtown madness, but somehow they’ve managed to create this bubble of calm that feels miles away from the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Carnegie Hall and all the Broadway theaters, but step into that lobby and it’s like someone hit the mute button on the city.

The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on – not trying too hard to impress, which honestly makes it more impressive. The rooms are what I’d call “New York spacious,” meaning they’re actually livable without feeling like you’re camping in a closet. And here’s something I really appreciated: the windows actually open, which is rarer than you’d think in Manhattan hotels. Sure, you might catch some street noise if you’re facing 55th, but it’s that authentic New York soundtrack that some people actually pay extra for. The bathrooms are legitimately nice – marble that doesn’t look cheap, and water pressure that won’t leave you standing there disappointed at 7 AM.

What really works about this place is the location intelligence. You’re right in the heart of everything without being stuck in the Times Square tourist trap nightmare. Columbus Circle is basically next door, which means easy subway access and Central Park when you need to breathe. I noticed a lot of business travelers here, probably because you can actually walk to most Midtown offices, and the lobby has this quiet, productive vibe during the day. The staff seems to get that people staying here are often locals or frequent visitors who don’t need the whole “welcome to New York” song and dance – they’re efficient without being cold. Check-in was smooth, none of that artificial friendliness that feels exhausting when you just want to drop your bags. The concierge actually knows the neighborhood, too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels just hand you a generic list of tourist spots. One small thing – parking isn’t cheap (this is Manhattan, so duh), but they do have valet service if you’re brave enough to drive in the city. Overall, it’s the kind of place that gets New York right – sophisticated without being stuffy, central without being chaotic, and comfortable enough that you’re not constantly reminded you’re in a hotel room.

Reviews of WestHouse Hotel New York

  • Alina from Italy (9/10)

Best location, breakfast very good, best view from our balcony!

  • Shmuel from Israel (9/10)

The staff was absolutely brilliant- both friendly and extremely helpful. In particular, Mo at the front desk was welcoming and went out of his way to make me feel at home. The rooms are a good size by NYC standards and well-appointed. And the breakfast and happy hour on the 23rd floor at the Terrace was a real treat.

Importantly, many reviews make mention of the elevators/lifts being extremely slow- we didn't have any real issues with this at all.

  • Rachel from United Kingdom (8/10)

Location, breakfast and the hours of indulgence were fabulous!

  • Jo-ann from United Kingdom (7/10)

The location was great. The hotel decor was beautiful, very stylish yet very welcoming at the same time. The bed was super comfy and the little details really elevated the experience. Genius to have a cut away area in the shower glass so that you could turn the water on and only get into the shower when the water was hot enough. I have never seen that before and I have travelled a lot. It made me want one in the showers I have at home! Also as a lone female traveler, I felt 100% safe in my room.

    Loved the staff… clean, breakfast,

  • Jennifer from United States (9/10)

Beds were comfortable and the Terrace breakfast and appetizers in the evening were tasty!

Location was great. Easy walk to Columbus Circle and Metropolitan opera and Central Park and easy walk to Times Square. And subway right next door. Also a fast and pretty walk to all the shops and storefronts on Fifth Avenue. Great access to Macy’s Thanksgiving parade- just a 1-2 block walk down 55th street. Breakfast was great. We did not know there would be a full Thanksgiving dinner- had not been told about included evening food options- wish we had known.
It is very hard to find rooms in NYC that sleep 4 adults so we were pleased with that. Decent price.

  • Diane from New Zealand (7/10)

The hotel is in a great location, close to Central Park, subway station, food, and walking distance to many attractions. The beds were very comfortable, our room was also quiet except for the air con that was a bit noisy but we got used to it.
