W New York – Times Square Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from another Times Square hotel – I mean, the area’s basically tourist central and most places feel pretty cookie-cutter. But the W New York actually surprised me in a good way. Walking into the lobby, there’s this whole modern, almost clubby vibe going on that feels way more sophisticated than the chaos happening right outside on Broadway. The check-in was smooth (thank god, because I’d been walking around midtown for hours), and honestly, the staff seemed to actually want to be there, which is refreshing.
The location is pretty much dead center of everything – you’re literally steps from the TKTS stairs and all the theater madness, but here’s the thing locals know: if you walk just two blocks west toward Eighth Avenue, you’ll find way better food spots that aren’t charging $30 for a mediocre burger. The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you can stumble back from a late show without dealing with subway delays, but you’re also close enough to Hell’s Kitchen that you can escape the Times Square tourist trap pretty easily. Room-wise, they’ve got that sleek W aesthetic down – dark woods, crisp whites, and those signature beds that are actually as comfortable as they look. The windows are pretty solid at blocking out street noise, which honestly impressed me because Broadway never really sleeps.
What I really appreciated was how they handle the whole Times Square thing without pretending it’s not chaotic out there. The concierge team knows their stuff about navigating the area – they’ll tell you which subway entrance to use during rush hour and where to grab coffee that doesn’t cost a fortune. The rooftop situation is solid too, especially if you time it right during off-peak hours when it’s not packed with bridge-and-tunnel crowds. I stayed there during Fashion Week (total coincidence, but good timing) and the energy was pretty electric without feeling overwhelming. Sure, you’re paying a premium for the location, but if you’re doing the whole NYC theater and shopping thing, it actually makes sense. Plus, the gym is decent and open 24/7, which saved me when jet lag had me wide awake at 5 AM.

The location was perfect since the show we came to see was only a block away. The room was very clean, felt safe, lots of outlets, plus the night lights on both sides of the bed was very nice. And the staff was exceptional – friendly and accommodating!

We were on the 31st floor and the room was beautiful and very clean. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. We were three adults so having the extra room was great, very spacious and great views. Overall it was a great experience.
