The Wall Street Inn Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from The Wall Street Inn when I first walked up to 9 South William Street – I mean, it’s tucked into this narrow Financial District street that honestly feels more like an alley if you’re used to Midtown’s wide avenues. But stepping inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. The lobby’s got this warm, almost residential feel that’s a refreshing change from those sterile corporate hotels that dominate the area.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re literally surrounded by history – Trinity Church is right there, and you can walk to Stone Street (which, honestly, is one of the few spots down here that doesn’t feel like a ghost town after 6 PM) in about two minutes. What I really appreciated is how quiet it gets at night. The Financial District basically empties out after the markets close, so while you might feel a bit isolated if you’re used to staying in Times Square, you’ll sleep better than you have in years. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Manhattan, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with decent storage and surprisingly good water pressure. I stayed on the fourth floor and could barely hear the street noise, which is saying something in New York.
Here’s the thing that surprised me most: the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn Bridge (because the subway situation down here can be confusing), the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the nearest station – he told me about the pedestrian entrance and mentioned that walking across right before sunset would give me the best photos. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at chain hotels. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare, nothing fancy, but there’s a really good coffee cart right outside that opens early, and Joe’s Pizza on Fulton Street is close enough that you’ll probably end up there at least once anyway. Parking is… well, it’s the Financial District, so don’t even think about driving unless you absolutely have to. But honestly, with the 4/5/6 trains at Fulton Street and the R/W at Rector, you’re pretty well connected to the rest of the city. The Wall Street Inn isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it gets the fundamentals right and puts you in a part of Manhattan that most tourists rush through without really experiencing.

Staff was amazing and welcoming.

Great location. It's near several subway stations and ferry stop. Rooms are spacious, and clean, but dark (rather common thing in Manhattan). Infrastructure could use a refreshment though. Staff at the reception wasn't super welcoming when we arrived, but people sitting there on subsequent days were nice. The fact that coffee and tea is available the whole day, as well as sweet snacks, is a nice touch.

Breakfast not incredible, but good.

It was my second stay at this hotel and the facilities are so lovely and the staff so nice and welcoming.
David from United Kingdom (8/10)
Comfortable room, plenty big enough for us, but decor a little dated and carpets overdue for replacement.
We appreciated the all day tea/coffee facility. The breakfast of toast, bagels, tea, coffee, cereal etc was more than adequate for our needs and of better quality than we expected, from other reviews.
Location for us was excellent as we were cruising from Brooklyn and it was very easy to get the ferry from Pier 11 to Red Hook, a few minutes walk away. Handy for Wall Street subway stations too and the interesting downtown sites and venues.
The journey from JFK was easier than we thought it might be, Airtrain to Jamaica, LIRR to Penn and the red subway line to Wall Street. We are 70 plus with heavy luggage and we managed OK but note that at some subway interchanges, we didn't find a lift so it was a bit of a struggle with the suitcases.
It wasn't a cheap stay but for New York it wasn't so bad and less expensive than other establishments we researched, but for us the location was ideal. We would definitely stay again.Steve from United States (9/10)

Excellent location for lower Manhattan.

It was well situated within the city, close to public transport. Front desk was friendly. Bed was very comfortable!

The location is absolutely ideal. Behind the inn is a cobblestone street that is restricted to pedestrians. The restaurant lined street is decorated with lights and garland. Live music can be heard from the rooms when the windows are open. It is a block from the water and 3 blocks from the ferry. So many fantastic restaurants within walking distance.
