The Renwick Overview
You know what struck me first about The Renwick? It’s tucked into this classic Murray Hill spot on East 40th that feels properly New York without screaming “tourist hotel.” I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Grand Central – and I’m talking about the actual walking time, not that inflated hotel marketing nonsense. The building itself has this understated boutique vibe that works really well in a neighborhood where you’ve got everything from dive bars to decent Korean BBQ within a couple blocks.
The rooms are honestly better than I expected for midtown Manhattan. They’ve got this modern thing going without feeling sterile, and – here’s something that actually matters – the windows are solid enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from 40th Street at 2 AM. The bathrooms are nicely done, nothing revolutionary but you’ve got good water pressure and space to actually spread out your stuff. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details that you notice when you’re actually living in a place for a few days rather than just passing through. The lighting works for both getting ready in the morning and winding down at night, and there are enough outlets positioned where you’d actually want to use them.
Staff-wise, they seem to get that most people staying here are either business travelers who know what they want or leisure visitors who’ve done their homework on the city. Check-in was efficient without feeling rushed, and the front desk folks actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give useful restaurant recommendations (they steered me toward this excellent little Italian place on 39th that I never would’ve found otherwise). The location really is the sweet spot – you’re close enough to midtown that you can walk to most places, but far enough from the Times Square madness that you feel like you’re staying somewhere real New Yorkers might actually live. Plus, being this close to Grand Central means you can easily hit up other boroughs or get to the airports without the usual midtown transportation headaches. It’s not the flashiest place you’ll ever stay, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re spending several days in the city.

excellent property. close to everything

The hotel has a great retro artsy look. Very good location. The suite is huge but the bathroom is rather small and less comfortable. Hotel stuff are helpful
Michael from United Kingdom (9/10)
This property is in a great location. Much of what we wanted to see was in walking distance. There are several subway stations within a few minutes walk as well. The hotel is very clean. The room service is good. I really liked that. This was not like one of those chain hotels. It was a little quirky this, may not be to everybody’s taste. However, we particularly enjoyed this feature as it made it a bit different. It made us feel like we were really in New York as opposed to an anonymous hotel which could’ve been anywhere in the world..

The location is excellent—very convenient for exploring NYC, with easy access to major attractions. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, and the subway at Grand Central makes getting around hassle-free. The staff was friendly and helpful, which enhanced the experience. The room and bathroom were spacious, offering plenty of comfort.
