Tucked away on Seabring Street, The Lodge Red Hook fits right into that vibe. It’s got a low-key, almost cabin-like feel to it, which honestly makes a lot of sense given the name. Walking in, you get the sense that someone put real thought into making this place feel like a retreat rather than just another place to sleep.

Location & Neighborhood

Red Hook isn’t the most obvious choice for a Brooklyn base, and I think that’s exactly why it works so well for certain travelers. You’re close to the waterfront, which means you can wander down to the water and get some genuinely great views of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty without fighting through crowds. The neighborhood has a handful of really good spots to eat and drink — Hometown Bar-B-Que is nearby, and the Red Hook Lobster Pound is worth knowing about. It’s a bit removed from the subway, so you’ll probably want to grab a rideshare or a Citi Bike to get into other parts of Brooklyn or Manhattan, but honestly, that slight distance is part of what keeps the area feeling calm.

The Room

As a three-star hotel, The Lodge Red Hook isn’t trying to be something it’s not — and that’s actually refreshing. The rooms are comfortable and well put together, with that same grounded, cozy aesthetic you notice when you first walk in. Nothing over-engineered, nothing fussy. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you can relax rather than worrying about messing up some pristine white surface.

One thing worth knowing — they do offer breakfast here, and it leans American style, which means you’re not going to go hungry before a day of exploring. There’s also a grab-and-go option if you’re the type who wants to get moving early, which I always appreciate. And this is genuinely useful in Brooklyn: the hotel has private parking on site. If you’re driving into the city, that alone saves you a real headache, because street parking in this part of Brooklyn can be unpredictable at best.

Red Hook has a certain quiet romance to it, especially in the evenings when the waterfront lights up and the neighborhood slows down.   The hotel room was very spacious, and the Queen sized bed was an absolute dream. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, you couldn't wish for more. Porridge, cereals, fruit, eggs, sausages, muesli, sliced cheeses, hams, salads, tomatoes, everything was fresh. The staff serving the hot selections were so lovely. Breakfast was served between 6:30 – 09:30 every day. The location was excellent, only a stones throw away from local bars, restaurants, and shops. Make sure you turn left when leaving the hotel and head down the street, which leads you to a charming area. The Brooklyn Crab is a great place to dine.
  Also, the hotel isn't far from the ferry terminals, which take you over to Manhatten. I would strongly recommend this hotel. A big shout out to the reception staff. Don't listen to the moaners, Redhook is a lovely part of Brooklyn, and the people are so helpful and friendly. Take a walk up to Smith Street. This leads you straight into the heart of Brooklyn and an abundance of shops, cafe bars, and local markets heading into DUMBO.
  You will save $100's just by choosing to stay here. We will definitely be returning. Xxx
