The Cloud One New York-Downtown, by the Motel One Group Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Cloud One New York-Downtown, by the Motel One Group, you immediately notice this isn’t your typical Financial District hotel. The lobby has this sleek, modern European vibe that feels refreshingly different from the stuffy corporate hotels that dominate this part of Manhattan. I mean, the Motel One Group knows what they’re doing — they’ve perfected this formula across Europe, and honestly, it translates beautifully to New York. The four-star property manages to feel both sophisticated and approachable, which is exactly what you want after navigating the chaos of lower Manhattan.
Prime Financial District Location
The location on Greenwich Street is actually incredible — you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters downtown. Stone Street’s historic cobblestones and lively restaurant scene are just around the corner, while the 9/11 Memorial and One World Trade Center are within easy walking distance. What I love most is how couples seem to get it (they rate the location 9.5 out of 10), probably because there’s something romantic about strolling through these historic streets at night. The subway connections are solid too — you’ve got multiple lines nearby, so getting to Midtown or Brooklyn is surprisingly straightforward.
The Room Experience
The rooms follow Motel One’s signature design philosophy, and it works really well in this New York setting. Everything feels intentionally minimalist but warm — think clean lines, quality materials, and clever space-saving solutions that actually make sense in a city where square footage is precious. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel marketing speak), and the bathrooms are compact but well-designed. You know what impressed me most? The attention to lighting — they’ve created this cozy atmosphere that helps you unwind after a day of city exploration.
Neighborhood Insights
Being in the Financial District means you’re experiencing a part of Manhattan that most tourists rush through but never really explore. During the week, it buzzes with Wall Street energy, but evenings and weekends reveal a quieter, more intimate side of the city. The South Street Seaport is a short walk away, and honestly, the waterfront views of Brooklyn Bridge are some of the best you’ll find. Plus, you’re close enough to Little Italy and Chinatown that you can easily wander over for dinner — something that’s not always convenient from Midtown hotels.
Why Guests Love It
What sets The Cloud One New York-Downtown apart is how it balances European hotel sophistication with New York practicality. The staff seems to understand that travelers want efficiency without sacrificing warmth, and the overall experience feels more authentic than those massive chain hotels uptown. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense when you consider the combination of location, design, and value. It’s particularly great for couples or solo travelers who want to be in the thick of historic Manhattan without dealing with the tourist crowds of Times Square or the premium prices of SoHo.

Gabriel from Brazil (9/10)
Great hotel, it’s new (2 years) and well located near the metro and WTC. Cleaning was very good.
Monique from Netherlands (8/10)
Nice location close to 9 11 memorial. with plenty of metro subway lines. Also very close to a shopping center. Size of room for new york was very reasonable with a king bed, and very quiet – noise cancellation. Would certainly recommend, less than 20-25 min from time square with public transport. Reliable wifi and they keep your luggage in storiage for free!
