Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/Times Square Overview
So I’ve stayed at this Residence Inn on Avenue of the Americas a few times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to when I need to be in midtown but don’t want to deal with the typical cramped hotel room situation. The building itself is pretty modern – you know, one of those glass towers that fits right into the corporate landscape around there, but once you’re inside, it actually feels more like a nice apartment building than a hotel.
What really sold me on this place is the suite setup. I mean, you get an actual kitchen with a full-size fridge, which is huge when you’re staying more than a couple nights. The first time I walked into my room, I was genuinely surprised by how much space there was – the living area is separate from the bedroom, so you can actually spread out and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. The couch is decent too, not one of those rock-hard hotel pieces that look nice but are impossible to actually relax on. And the kitchen… well, it’s not going to win any design awards, but it’s functional. I’ve made everything from morning coffee to late-night pasta in there. The grocery store situation isn’t terrible either – there’s a Whole Foods about six blocks south on 6th Avenue, though fair warning, it gets absolutely mobbed after work hours.
Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of everything, which is both good and… well, you know what Times Square is like. The energy is incredible, but it can get overwhelming fast. What I really appreciate though is that even though you’re just a few blocks from all that Times Square chaos, the actual street the hotel is on feels more business-district quiet, especially at night. You’ll still hear sirens and general city noise – this is Manhattan, after all – but it’s not the constant party atmosphere you get closer to 42nd Street. The subway access is solid too. You’ve got the B, D, F, and M trains at 47-50th Streets-Rockefeller Center, which is maybe a four-minute walk, and honestly that station connects you to pretty much everywhere you’d want to go. I’ve never had trouble getting downtown or up to the Upper West Side from there.
The staff has always been pretty helpful when I’ve needed things – they seem to actually know the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotel employees can’t tell you where to find a decent late-night bite or a pharmacy. Check-in is usually smooth, though I’d avoid arriving between 3 and 5 PM if you can help it, since that’s when all the business travelers seem to descend at once. One thing that’s worth mentioning – the breakfast setup is actually pretty good. It’s not just continental breakfast pastries; they do hot food, and the coffee is better than most hotel coffee, which… let’s be honest, isn’t a high bar, but still. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you can actually live a bit while you’re visiting, rather than just crashing somewhere between tourist activities.

Really great workers! First time in New York and they were really helpful. Also, breakfast was exactly what we needed! Comfortable beds and not too noise vs other hotels closer to Times Square. During Christmas time is right next to the Bryans Park winter market.
