Residence Inn by Marriott New York Downtown Manhattan/World Trade Center Area Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of extended-stay places in the city, and this Residence Inn actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. The location on Broadway – and I mean the real Broadway, not the theater district everyone thinks of – puts you smack in the middle of Financial District energy without the Times Square chaos. You’re literally walking distance from the 9/11 Memorial, which honestly feels pretty profound when you step out in the morning with your coffee.

What really sold me on this place was how they handle the whole “living in New York temporarily” thing. The suites have actual kitchens – not those sad mini-fridges with a hot plate, but real counter space where you can prep food you grabbed from the Century 21 department store’s surprisingly decent food court around the corner. The grocery delivery situation works seamlessly here too, which matters when you’re staying more than a few nights. I mean, eating out for every meal in this neighborhood will drain your wallet fast, even though you’ve got some solid options like Stone Street’s cobblestone restaurant row just a few blocks south.

The building itself has that converted-something vibe that works well in this part of Manhattan – it doesn’t feel like a generic hotel box dropped into the neighborhood. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, though I’d recommend avoiding Sunday evenings when business travelers are flooding in for the week. The staff actually knows the area, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many hotel workers can’t tell you where the nearest subway entrance is (it’s the Fulton Street complex, by the way, which connects you to basically everywhere).

One thing I appreciated – the windows actually block out most of the street noise, which is crucial because Broadway down here stays busy well into the evening with commuters heading to Brooklyn. The rooms themselves feel more like temporary apartments than hotel rooms, and the housekeeping strikes that sweet spot between helpful and not intrusive. You know what really impressed me though? The business center setup actually works for remote work calls, and the lobby WiFi doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes like so many places.

The neighborhood transforms completely depending on when you’re walking around – weekday mornings it’s all suits and purposeful energy, but evenings and weekends it gets quieter, almost residential feeling. You’re close enough to walk to the Brooklyn Bridge when you need that tourist moment, but far enough from the South Street Seaport crowds that you don’t feel trapped in someone else’s vacation. Trinity Church is right there too, which provides this weird historical anchor point that makes the whole area feel more substantial than just another business district.

Honestly, for the price point and that 8.6 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a place to actually live temporarily in Lower Manhattan without feeling like you’re camping out in a hotel room. The four-star rating feels about right; it’s polished and professional without trying to be fancy in ways that don’t matter when you just want a comfortable base for exploring the city.
