Penny Williamsburg Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Penny Williamsburg on North 8th Street, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical Brooklyn hotel. The building has this understated industrial charm that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s vibe — you know, polished but not trying too hard. I mean, this is Williamsburg we’re talking about, so anything too flashy would feel completely out of place. The four-star property manages to strike that sweet spot between sophisticated and authentically local. This boutique establishment represents everything that makes Brooklyn’s hospitality scene so compelling, offering guests an authentic experience that larger chain hotels simply can’t match.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Honestly, the location is what really sets this place apart. You’re literally in the heart of one of Brooklyn’s coolest neighborhoods, and couples consistently rate it highly. Within a five-minute walk, you’ve got some of the city’s best coffee shops, vintage stores, and that whole artsy scene that made Williamsburg famous. The East River waterfront is right there too, with those incredible Manhattan skyline views that never get old, even for locals. The neighborhood’s creative energy is infectious, with art galleries, independent bookstores, and craft breweries creating a cultural landscape that changes with each season.

The Room Experience

The room design really captures what modern Brooklyn hospitality should feel like. Clean lines, exposed brick elements, and these large windows that actually let in decent light — something you can’t take for granted in New York. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What I appreciated most was how they managed to include local touches without going overboard with the whole “Brooklyn theme” thing that some places push too hard. Each accommodation features thoughtfully curated amenities that reflect the neighborhood’s industrial heritage while providing contemporary comfort that today’s travelers expect.

Dining and Daily Life

While the hotel’s restaurant serves solid food, you’re honestly spoiled for choice in this neighborhood. I’d actually recommend venturing out — there’s this incredible bagel spot two blocks away, and some of the city’s best pizza is within walking distance. The hotel staff seems to get this too; they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations and don’t just point you to the obvious tourist spots. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in Williamsburg, but that’s pretty standard for the area, and the subway access more than makes up for it. The concierge team maintains relationships with local establishments, ensuring guests discover hidden gems that most visitors never find.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about Penny Williamsburg is how it feels like you’re staying in the neighborhood rather than just visiting it. The 8.8 guest rating reflects something important — this place delivers on the experience people are actually looking for when they choose Williamsburg over Manhattan. You get that authentic Brooklyn energy without sacrificing comfort or service quality. It’s particularly great for couples who want to explore together, with tree-lined streets and new discoveries waiting around every corner. The hotel creates lasting memories by connecting guests with the genuine spirit of Brooklyn, making each stay feel like a personal discovery rather than just another hotel experience.

Best hotels in New York blend rooftop terraces, chef-driven tasting menus, and skyline spa sanctuaries.

The location was perfect and close to the subway station. The room had a good interior, and the hotel was very quiet. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooftop bar was a plus we didn't anticipate.

Great hotel, nice staff, excellent location in Williamsburg, very close to Bedford station (1 stop form manhattan)
Rooms were comfortable, large and cleaned everyday. Fresh coffee everyday to brew in your room or ready at reception and cold water available at all times. Did not get a chance to try out “Eñ Nico” restaurant on the top floor, but the view was amazing. Would absolutely recommend.

  • Joan from United Kingdom (9/10)

This is the first time I have stayed at this hotel, having stayed at neighbouring hotels in recent years. The staff were extremely friendly, they made me feel very welcome and for this reason I will certainly choose this hotel again for my next visit. The rooftop bar was lovely with amazing views across to Manhattan.

  • Becky from United States (9/10)

Conveniently located near all the best shops and train stops in Williamsburg. The room I booked was the perfect size and spacious enough for 2 with all the essentials ended for a comfortable stay. Love that there was a water refill station right outside our room and directions and info clearly displayed on the cork board when you enter. We arrived early in the morning and didn’t have to wait a crazy long time for our room to be ready. They also have pastries, coffee and water in the lobby and a terrace to sit and enjoy as well.
