NU Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to NU Hotel on Smith Street, you immediately get that this four-star spot isn’t trying too hard to impress — and honestly, that’s what makes it work. The sleek, minimalist facade fits perfectly into Boerum Hill’s evolving landscape, where industrial Brooklyn meets polished gentrification. I mean, you’re literally standing in one of the neighborhood’s most dynamic corridors, and the hotel seems to understand that without making a big show of it.
The Boerum Hill Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re close enough to Manhattan that the subway ride is painless (the Bergen Street F/G stop is right there), but you actually get to experience Brooklyn as locals do. Smith Street has become this fantastic strip of restaurants and bars that tourists rarely discover. Couples especially seem to get this; they consistently rate the area highly because there’s something genuinely romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets after dinner. You know what’s great? You can grab coffee at one of the indie spots nearby and actually feel like you’re part of the neighborhood rhythm.
The Room Experience
The rooms at NU Hotel lean into that clean, contemporary aesthetic without feeling sterile. Everything’s thoughtfully designed — the lighting actually works for both reading and relaxation (which is rarer than it should be), and the beds are genuinely comfortable. What struck me most was how they’ve maximized space without making you feel cramped. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, though not huge — but honestly, in Brooklyn, you’re not spending much time in your room anyway.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast setup here is pretty solid — they offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to explore or taking your time. I actually appreciated that they don’t overcomplicate things; the quality is consistent, and there’s enough variety to keep you satisfied. The coffee’s decent too, though if you’re a serious coffee person, you’ll want to venture out to some of the local roasters (which, let’s be honest, is part of the Brooklyn experience anyway).
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances accessibility with authenticity. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly — and I get why. You’re not stuck in some tourist bubble, but you’re also not sacrificing convenience or comfort. The staff seems to understand that travelers want recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots, and they’re genuinely helpful about pointing you toward the good stuff. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting an insider’s view of Brooklyn without having to work too hard for it. Plus, that 8.4 rating from couples isn’t just about the romantic neighborhood walks — there’s something about NU Hotel that just makes sense for a getaway that feels both urban and intimate.
Hotel in New York reservations spike before fashion week, so style lovers lock in loft suites early.

Claire from United Kingdom (9/10)
The room was a good size and had everything we needed. The location is great, it is right next to the Subway station that takes you straight in to Manhattan in about 15 minutes. The staff at the hotel are really friendly, my mum is gluten free and they provided GF bread for her for breakfast which was great of them!

Room is great size for New York, staff is very helpful. Free breakfast and coffee is a bonus. It is in a great location of Brooklyn. Close to the subway and walking distance to so many places. It is a smaller hotel so no waiting on elevators.
