Merrion Row Hotel and Public House Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Merrion Row Hotel and Public House on West 45th Street, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical four-star Manhattan hotel. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the place — it feels more like a well-appointed neighborhood spot that happens to be smack in the middle of Times Square chaos. The lobby has this warm, pub-inspired aesthetic that actually works really well, and honestly, after dealing with the sensory overload outside, it’s kind of a relief.

The Heart of Everything

I mean, you really can’t beat this location if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally steps from Times Square, but here’s what I found interesting — couples absolutely love staying here, and I get why. Despite being surrounded by all the tourist madness, the hotel itself feels like a little escape. Broadway theaters are practically next door, and you can walk to pretty much any major New York attraction without breaking a sweat. The subway access is solid too, which matters more than you might think when you’re hauling luggage around the city.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was smaller than what you’d find in most cities — this is Manhattan, after all — but they’ve made smart use of the space. Everything feels thoughtfully designed rather than cramped, and the soundproofing is surprisingly good considering you’re in one of the loudest neighborhoods on earth. The beds are comfortable, and there’s enough storage to actually unpack if you’re staying more than a night or two. What I really appreciated was how clean everything felt, not just surface-level clean but genuinely well-maintained.

Dining and Social Scene

The public house part of the name isn’t just for show — there’s a legitimate restaurant and bar downstairs that locals actually frequent, which is pretty rare in this part of town. The food is better than typical hotel fare, and the atmosphere feels authentic rather than trying too hard to be trendy. I ended up grabbing dinner there twice because, well, sometimes you just want to decompress without venturing back into the Times Square circus. The staff seemed to know their regulars, which gave the whole place a more personal feel.

Why Guests Love It

You know what really sets this place apart? It strikes that perfect balance between being centrally located and maintaining its own character. Most hotels in this area either feel completely generic or they’re so expensive you need a second mortgage. Merrion Row sits comfortably in between — you’re getting solid accommodations, a prime location, and reasonable rates for what you’re getting in this neighborhood. The fact that couples rate the location so highly tells you something about the vibe here. It’s not just about proximity to attractions; there’s something about the atmosphere that makes it feel special rather than just convenient.

To book a hotel in New York during holiday windows, visitors plan ahead to balance Fifth Avenue strolls with Rockefeller tree views.

I can’t say enough! The staff were SO kind. The location was perfect! The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and the rooms were neat and tidy and quite large! Breakfast in the morning was delightful- a full Irish breakfast. The Irish coffee to go was such a treat as well!

Lovely clean and comfortable room. Surprisingly quiet at night given location just off of Times Square. I calm oasis in the midst of it all. Wonderful restaurant and bar with friendly and helpful staff. We loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone. Another nice touch was giving us back the city tax of $25 a night in vouchers to spend at the bar and restaurant. Gave us an excuse for a pre dinner cocktail. So nice to stay in a smaller hotel like this than a larger less personal one. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The staff is the best part of this hotel! They give off a genuine warmth. 1 staff member even stopped eating his lunch to help me when he saw that I was having an issue.

My room was nice and spacious. I thought I'd have a problem with noise since I was so close to the street, but honestly it was on the quieter side. This may be due to this being a weekday booking and also because my room was at the end of a corridor, shared with just 1 other hotel room. The remaining rooms in that corridor were for storage/maintenance.

I would visit this hotel again. Nice interior design/decor, great staff and location, lots of hot water in the shower(does take a few minutes to get hot though), great black out curtains and comfortable bed. Oh and they hold your bags for you as long as you need after check out
