Merrion Row Hotel and Public House Overview

You know what struck me first about the Merrion Row? It’s got this whole Irish pub vibe going on right in the heart of Times Square chaos, which honestly shouldn’t work but totally does. Walking in from the madness of 45th Street – and I mean, you’re literally steps from all the Broadway theaters – it feels like you’ve ducked into someone’s really well-appointed local hangout. The lobby has this warm, dark wood thing happening that reminds me more of Dublin than Midtown, but in the best possible way.

The rooms are actually pretty solid for what you’re paying in this neighborhood. I mean, let’s be real – you’re not getting massive square footage anywhere around here unless you’re dropping serious cash, but they’ve made smart use of the space. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are surprisingly modern. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being on one of the busiest streets in the city. You can hear some street noise if you really listen for it, but nothing that kept me up at night. The pub downstairs gets lively in the evenings – which is actually kind of charming if you’re into that atmosphere, though families with young kids might want to consider that.

Here’s the thing that makes this place special though – the location is absolutely unbeatable if you’re doing the whole tourist thing. You can walk to pretty much any show on Broadway in under five minutes, and Times Square is right there when you want it (and easy to escape when you don’t). But what locals know is that you’re also really close to some great off-the-beaten-path spots. Hell’s Kitchen has some fantastic restaurants just a few blocks west, and the whole area around 9th and 10th Avenue has this neighborhood feel that most visitors never discover. The staff actually knows this stuff too – they’re not just reciting generic recommendations from a script. I had a great conversation with the front desk about where to grab a proper bagel that wasn’t overpriced tourist bait. Plus, parking is about what you’d expect for Midtown (expensive), but there are a couple of garages nearby, and honestly, you probably don’t need a car if you’re staying here anyway. The subway is super accessible, and most of what you came to New York to see is within walking distance.

I can’t say enough! The staff were SO kind. The location was perfect! The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and the rooms were neat and tidy and quite large! Breakfast in the morning was delightful- a full Irish breakfast. The Irish coffee to go was such a treat as well!

Lovely clean and comfortable room. Surprisingly quiet at night given location just off of Times Square. I calm oasis in the midst of it all. Wonderful restaurant and bar with friendly and helpful staff. We loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone. Another nice touch was giving us back the city tax of $25 a night in vouchers to spend at the bar and restaurant. Gave us an excuse for a pre dinner cocktail. So nice to stay in a smaller hotel like this than a larger less personal one. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The staff is the best part of this hotel! They give off a genuine warmth. 1 staff member even stopped eating his lunch to help me when he saw that I was having an issue.

My room was nice and spacious. I thought I'd have a problem with noise since I was so close to the street, but honestly it was on the quieter side. This may be due to this being a weekday booking and also because my room was at the end of a corridor, shared with just 1 other hotel room. The remaining rooms in that corridor were for storage/maintenance.

I would visit this hotel again. Nice interior design/decor, great staff and location, lots of hot water in the shower(does take a few minutes to get hot though), great black out curtains and comfortable bed. Oh and they hold your bags for you as long as you need after check out
