I’ll be honest – when I first walked into M Social Hotel Times Square, I wasn’t expecting much. Another boutique hotel trying too hard to be different, you know? But this place actually surprised me. It’s tucked on West 52nd between Broadway and 8th Avenue, which means you’re literally in the thick of everything without being right on the tourist chaos of Times Square itself. Smart positioning, really.

The lobby hits you with this whole tech-forward vibe that somehow doesn’t feel gimmicky. There are these massive digital art installations that change throughout the day, and while I’m usually skeptical of hotels that lean too hard into the “futuristic” thing, it works here. The staff actually knows how to use all the tech too – I watched them help an older couple navigate the digital check-in without making them feel stupid about it. The rooms are compact but thoughtfully designed, which honestly is what you want in Midtown. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms have this rain shower situation that’s actually functional, not just for show. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – you’d think being this close to Times Square would mean constant noise, but I slept better here than at some places way uptown.

Here’s what sold me on this place though: the Beast & Butterflies restaurant on the ground floor is legitimately good, not just hotel-restaurant-adequate. I grabbed dinner there on a Tuesday night and it was packed with locals, which tells you something. The location is honestly perfect if you’re doing the whole New York theater thing – you can walk to most Broadway shows in under ten minutes, and there’s a decent cocktail spot called The Press Lounge just a few blocks away if you want to decompress after. The subway situation is solid too – N, Q, R, W, S trains at Times Square-42nd, plus the 1 train at 50th Street, so you can get pretty much anywhere without the headache of crosstown buses. I mean, parking is still Manhattan parking (expensive and annoying), but the hotel’s valet situation is straightforward if you’re driving. The neighborhood gets a bit sketchy late at night – it’s still Times Square area after all – but it’s mostly just tourists and theater crowds, nothing too concerning. For a 4-star place with an 8.4 rating, it delivers on the promise without the pretension you get at some of the bigger name hotels around here.

  The location was perfect and the reception/lounge/terrace bar area was lovely to hang out in, especially when there was a live DJ! The views from the bar and the room were so amazing! Staff were lovely and couldn’t be more helpful, great people! The only problem with the hotel was the lifts! If you have stayed here you will know! There are 4 lifts to get to the rooms and when leaving the room in the morning, you will be waiting for 5-10 minutes before an empty or a lift with some space for you arrives. Additionally, the lift from the reception area to the street level was always broken so out of 2 only one would work which led to huge queues but the staff helpfully showed us another route to leave if we were without luggage and children and this was super easy! Overall a great stay, room was slightly smaller than I expected from the photos but still really nice. The staff surprised us with a card and chocolate covered strawberries for our anniversary. We also got a free bottle of wine but we don’t drink so that was left behind. Thank you for a lovely stay!
