Hotel Hugo Overview
Honestly, Hotel Hugo caught me off guard in the best way possible. I mean, you walk up to this sleek glass tower on Greenwich Street and think “okay, another trendy SoHo spot,” but there’s actually some real substance here. The location is pretty perfect if you ask me – you’re literally steps from all those cobblestone streets and cast-iron buildings that make SoHo what it is, but you’re also close enough to walk to the Village or catch the 1 train at Houston Street without dealing with the total chaos of Midtown.
The lobby has this understated cool factor going on – not trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy, you know? What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about good coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the front desk guy immediately pointed me toward Birch Coffee on Prince Street instead of just shrugging. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get in Midtown (this is SoHo, after all), but they’re smartly designed with these huge windows that let in tons of light. Pro tip: if you can swing it, ask for a higher floor facing west – you’ll get glimpses of the Hudson River between buildings, especially beautiful at sunset.
Here’s what surprised me most though – it’s actually pretty quiet for being right in the heart of everything. Greenwich Street gets busy during the day with all the shopping traffic, but by evening it settles down considerably. I slept better here than I have at some supposedly “luxury” places in quieter parts of the city. The building feels solid, well-insulated. You might hear some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper, but nothing like what you’d deal with near Canal Street. Parking is basically nonexistent on the street (I mean, this is SoHo), but there’s a garage a block away on Varick if you’re driving in. Honestly though, you won’t need a car – everything worth seeing is walkable, and when it’s not, the subway connections are solid. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they held my bags without any fuss when I arrived early. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with crazy amenities or anything, but sometimes you just want a well-run place where everything works and you can actually get some rest between exploring the city. That’s exactly what Hotel Hugo delivers.

I had a great stay at this hotel! The staff were very friendly and attentive, making my experience even better. The location is perfect—everything is within walking distance, which was a huge plus. I also loved how clean the room was; it really added to the comfort of my stay. The only downside was that the room was a bit small, but it didn’t detract too much from my overall experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
