So I’ve stayed at Hotel Belleclaire a handful of times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to whenever I need to be on the Upper West Side. The building itself is this gorgeous pre-war thing right on Broadway – you know, one of those classic New York facades that makes you feel like you’re in a movie the second you walk up. It’s directly across from the Beacon Theatre, which is actually pretty cool if you’re into that scene, though it can get a bit hectic on show nights with all the crowds spilling out.

What I really love about this place is how it sits right in that sweet spot between tourist-friendly and genuinely local. You’re literally two blocks from Central Park – and I mean the good entrance near the reservoir, not just some random gate. The 72nd Street subway station is right there too, which honestly makes getting around the city so much easier than those Midtown hotels where you’re fighting through Times Square crowds just to catch a train. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that a lot of Manhattan hotels miss entirely. There’s a decent bodega on the corner (the guy behind the counter actually remembers regulars), and Zabar’s is just a few blocks up if you want to grab some proper bagels or coffee that doesn’t cost fifteen dollars.

The rooms themselves are… well, they’re New York-sized, which means you’re not doing cartwheels in there, but they’ve got character. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for a building this old, and the beds are actually comfortable – I mean, I’ve slept in enough Manhattan hotels to know that’s not always a given. The staff has always been solid with me; check-in is usually quick, and they seem to know what they’re doing. One thing though – if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing the courtyard instead of Broadway. It’s not terrible, but you’ll definitely hear some street noise, especially on weekends when people are bar-hopping along Amsterdam. The whole area gets pretty quiet after midnight though, which is more than you can say for a lot of places in the city. For the money and the location, it’s honestly hard to beat – you’re getting that classic New York hotel experience without the Midtown chaos or the Brooklyn commute.

  I liked the friendly staff, and the recommendations they gave. I love that it was easy to take the 1 train to the parts of the city I wanted. There is also Trader Joe’s, and CVS very close to hotel. The breakfast vouchers were awesome and so easy to use.

  the location is excellent, very close to the city center thanks to the proximity of two metro stations that allow you to take both local and express trains, but in a very quiet and silent neighborhood.

  Hotel was nice, the complementary wine hour and breakfast vouchers were a nice touch. I found the bed comfortable. There was one member of staff in particular (Benedict) who made the experience better, they were additionally to only one to offer acknowledgement on multiple occasions and greet as we entered or left.
