DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square South Overview

First Impressions

Walking into the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square South, you’re immediately struck by how they’ve managed to create a sense of calm in one of the city’s most energetic neighborhoods. The lobby feels surprisingly spacious for Midtown — and yes, you still get those famous warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in, which honestly never gets old. The four-star property has that polished Hilton feel without being overly formal, and the staff actually seems to know what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given in this part of town.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about Hell’s Kitchen these days? It’s got all the energy of Times Square without quite as many tourists elbowing you on every corner. The DoubleTree sits right on 8th Avenue, which means you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Theater District — perfect if you’re catching a Broadway show. I mean, couples seem to absolutely love this spot (they rate the location over 9 out of 10), and I get why. You can stroll to Central Park, hit up the incredible food scene along 9th Avenue, or just people-watch your way through Times Square when the mood strikes.

The Room Experience

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star hotel — clean, comfortable, and designed with the understanding that space is precious in Manhattan. The beds are genuinely comfortable (those Hilton mattresses really do make a difference), and the bathrooms are modern without trying too hard to be trendy. What I appreciate is the attention to practical details — decent lighting for actually reading, outlets where you need them, and blackout curtains that actually work. The city views from higher floors are pretty spectacular, especially at night when the neon chaos below looks almost magical from your window.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet is honestly better than I expected — it’s not just the usual sad hotel spread. They’ve got a good mix of hot and cold options, fresh fruit that’s actually fresh, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. Sure, it’s not going to compete with that amazing little diner down the street, but when you’re rushing to catch a morning show or meeting, it gets the job done well. The dining area gets busy during peak hours (what doesn’t in this neighborhood?), but the turnover is pretty quick.

Why Guests Love It

This hotel works because it understands what most New York visitors actually need — a comfortable, reliable base in an unbeatable location without breaking the bank. The DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square South delivers on the fundamentals while putting you right in the heart of everything that makes this city exciting. Whether you’re here for business meetings in Midtown, Broadway shows, or just soaking up the New York experience, you’ll find yourself perfectly positioned to dive into whatever the city throws at you. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well and wake up ready to tackle another day in the greatest city in the world.

New York’s hotels wrap guests in art-filled lobbies, jazz lounges, and concierge-led borough food tours.

  • Ph from United Kingdom (9/10)

Perfect location – Macy's, Times Square, Empire State Building etc. all within a 10-15 minute walk. The subway (Penn Station) is less than 2 mins walk away which was really convenient for us to travel downtown or uptown to Central Park. I thought the bed and pillows were the comfiest i've had at a hotel and the mini-fridge was really useful for somewhere to put our drinks.

Local breakfast places within 5-7 mins walk:
    – Liberty Bagels (delicious)
    – Best Bagel & Coffee (delicious)
    – The Bread Factory (great bagels, great service, wide selection of snacks and drinks)
    – Andrew's NYC Diner (delicious french toast/omlettes/pancakes, go before 08:00 – 09:30 to beat the queues)

My top tip – wake up early to walk across Brooklyn Bridge for sunrise (get a bagel from Liberty Bagels round the corner before it gets busy, jump on the A / C line (middle platform) downtown to High St. Brooklyn and walk back towards Manhattan). You'll be downtown and can choose to explore Chinatown / Wall Street etc. The location of this hotel makes this really convenient.

    Other local places:
    – 7/11 (2 mins walk away, really convenient for us to stock up on snacks & drinks)
    – Steak Frites Bistro (delicious dinner, 5 mins walk)
    – 2 Bros Pizza (great for a lunch / quick late dinner)
    – Jollibee (delicious for lunch)
    – Madison Square Garden (basketball was fun and the quickest you'll be home from a sporting event)
    – Macy's (go to some shopping! 5 mins walk)
