First Impressions

Walking into the Courtyard by Marriott Times Square West, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Midtown tourist trap hotel. The lobby has that clean, modern Marriott aesthetic — nothing flashy, but everything feels well-maintained and thoughtfully designed. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, which honestly makes a huge difference when you’re dealing with the chaos of New York City outside.

Location & Neighborhood

This three-star hotel sits right in Hell’s Kitchen on West 37th Street, and I mean it when I say the location is pretty much perfect for exploring Manhattan. You’re close enough to Times Square that you can walk there in about five minutes, but far enough away that you won’t be kept awake by the constant noise and crowds. The Hell’s Kitchen area has really transformed over the years — there are fantastic restaurants within a couple blocks, and you can easily grab the subway at nearby Port Authority or Penn Station. Couples especially seem to love this spot, and I can see why since you get that authentic New York neighborhood feel without being stuck in the middle of tourist central.

The Room Experience

Here’s what I really appreciated about my room — the bed was genuinely comfortable, not just hotel marketing speak. After walking around the city all day, you actually want to collapse into something that doesn’t feel like a rock, and this delivered. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’re smartly laid out with enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathroom was clean and modern, though nothing particularly fancy. What I liked most was that everything worked properly — the air conditioning, the WiFi, the TV — which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often hotels mess up these fundamentals.

Breakfast & Dining

The American breakfast here is solid without being spectacular. You’ll find the usual suspects — eggs, bacon, pastries, coffee that’s better than average hotel coffee but nothing to write home about. Honestly, though, with Hell’s Kitchen right outside your door, you might want to venture out for breakfast instead. There are some incredible local spots within walking distance that’ll give you a much more authentic New York experience, and the hotel’s location makes that super easy to do.

What really sets this place apart is how it balances being a reliable, well-run hotel with an absolutely stellar location. You’re getting solid Marriott standards — clean rooms, comfortable beds, helpful staff — in one of the best spots in Manhattan for both tourists and business travelers. The fact that couples rate the location so highly tells you something about the neighborhood’s appeal. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need: a comfortable base in an excellent location where you can recharge between exploring everything New York has to offer.
