Walking into the lobby at 1717 Broadway, you’re hit with this surprisingly calm vibe – like they somehow managed to create a buffer zone from all the street performers and tourist madness happening literally right outside their doors.

The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it. Yeah, you’re on Broadway, but you’re far enough north that you dodge the worst of the Times Square circus while still being close enough to walk to Central Park in about ten minutes (I timed it). What I really appreciate is how easy it makes getting around – the 57th Street subway station is right there, and honestly, that N/Q/R/W access is gold when you’re trying to get downtown or to Brooklyn without dealing with the transfer nightmare at Times Square proper. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star spot – clean, modern, nothing fancy but everything works. The beds are actually comfortable, which I mention because hotel beds can be such a gamble. I stayed on the 12th floor and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was at night, considering you’re literally on one of the busiest streets in Manhattan. I mean, you’ll still hear some sirens and the occasional late-night delivery truck, but it’s not the constant honking symphony you might expect.

Here’s something locals know but tourists often miss – this stretch of Broadway is perfect for grabbing real food without paying theme restaurant prices. There’s a decent deli two blocks north that actually makes proper bagels, and if you walk east toward 8th Avenue, you hit some solid Korean spots that are open late. The hotel’s fitness center is small but functional, though honestly, if you’re staying here, just walk to Central Park and run the reservoir loop – it’s way better than any hotel gym treadmill. Parking is expensive (welcome to Manhattan), but there’s a garage attached, which beats circling blocks looking for street parking. The staff seems genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. When I couldn’t figure out the most efficient way to get to the High Line, the front desk guy actually pulled out his phone and showed me the walking route versus subway options. That 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re the type who wants to be in the center of everything but still get decent sleep and have a reliable home base, this place hits that sweet spot.
