Best Western Plus Soho Hotel Overview

You know what really struck me about the Best Western Plus Soho Hotel? Walking up to 88 Walker Street, I was honestly expecting another cookie-cutter chain hotel – but this place actually gets the neighborhood right. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Chinatown here, and the hotel somehow manages to feel like it belongs rather than just plopping down in the middle of everything like some tourist trap.

The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it. Walker Street is just bustling enough that you feel connected to the city energy, but it’s not Canal Street crazy – you can actually sleep at night without earplugs. I stayed here in late spring, and honestly, opening the windows in the morning to the sounds of the neighborhood waking up (dim sum carts rolling by, shopkeepers hosing down sidewalks) felt more authentic than any fancy hotel lobby music. The rooms themselves are surprisingly well-appointed for a 3-star – I’m talking about actual space to move around, not those shoebox situations you sometimes get in Manhattan. The beds are solid, and they’ve clearly put some thought into the details. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing; even though you’re surrounded by one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city, you’re not dealing with street noise all night.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place though – the staff actually knows the area. When I asked about getting good xiaolongbao at a reasonable hour, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He told me about the spot two blocks down that opens at 7 AM and has the best soup dumplings without the Nom Wah Tea Parlor crowds. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t fake. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the St. Regis, but it’s doing everything it sets out to do really well. Parking is actually manageable (they have a deal with a nearby garage), which is basically a miracle in this part of town. Check-in was smooth, even when I showed up early after a red-eye flight. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feeling rather than that sterile business hotel vibe – there were actually people hanging out there by choice, not just waiting for Ubers. If you want to be walking distance from some of the best food in the city, quick subway access to everywhere else, and a place that feels like it’s part of the fabric of the neighborhood rather than imposed on it, this is honestly a great choice. Just don’t expect a rooftop pool or anything – you’re paying for location, comfort, and authenticity, and it delivers on all three.

Impressive breakfast. Better than expected. A wide selection of things to eat. Usually in New York, you get a bagel and cream cheese and a coffe. This breakfast had omelettes and bacon, bread, bagels, croissants, cheese, ham, yoghurt etc.

I loved the hotel's location: the neighbourhood is great, there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops within walking distance, and the subway connection is perfect in all directions. The breakfast was sufficient for us, if you add some vegetables would be just great. To me, there were plenty of amenities in the hotel, such as coffee and tea 24/7 in the lobby, the possibility to take breakfast away, a gym, and luggage storage. The room was small but well designed in a way that it was equipped with all the necessities and more (coffee machine, iron desk) and very comfortable. We got the backyard view room, and it was very quiet in the night. The wifi was great, which was important for us, as we didn't have a US number.
Last but not least, the staff of the hotel is just lovely! I always felt welcomed and never had the impression that I was bothering someone. They were all very helpful, kind, and approachable (especially the front desk staff, but also the cleaning team, breakfast team and everyone). They made our stay comfortable, easy and carefree. Special greetings to Nichole and also the lady who welcomed us the day we arrived (I am sorry, I don't remember the name). You are all great, and I hope to visit you again!
