The Peacock Inn, Ascend Hotel Collection Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Peacock Inn, Ascend Hotel Collection on Bayard Lane feels like stumbling upon Princeton’s best-kept secret. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of town, and honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect — you’re literally steps from Princeton University’s campus and the charming downtown area. The building itself has this understated elegance that fits seamlessly into the neighborhood’s historic character, though you’ll quickly realize there’s nothing old-fashioned about the service or amenities inside.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what really struck me about staying here? The way Princeton unfolds right outside your door. I mean, you can walk to Palmer Square in about two minutes, grab coffee at Small World Coffee, and browse the shops without ever needing your car. The university campus is right there too — perfect if you’re visiting for a reunion, prospective student tour, or just want to wander through those iconic collegiate Gothic buildings. And here’s something couples particularly love (they rate the location 9.5 out of 10): you can stroll hand-in-hand through the tree-lined streets, pop into cozy restaurant, and feel like you’re in your own little bubble away from the chaos of nearby cities.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this sophisticated yet comfortable vibe — think boutique hotel meets historic charm. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel marketing speak), and the bathrooms are well-appointed without being over-the-top. What I appreciated most was the attention to detail: good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets where you actually need them, and windows that let in natural light without street noise. The decor strikes that perfect balance between classic and contemporary, so it feels both timeless and fresh.
Practical Perks
Here’s where The Peacock Inn really wins points with travelers — they offer free parking on site, which is honestly a godsend in Princeton where street parking can be a nightmare, especially during university events. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward the best local spots (not just the obvious tourist traps). I found them particularly helpful with restaurant recommendations and timing visits to campus when it’s less crowded. The hotel’s size works in your favor too — it’s intimate enough that you’re not just another face in the crowd.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is how this place manages to feel both special and unpretentious. You’re getting that boutique hotel experience without the attitude, in a location that recent guests consistently rate 9.7 out of 10. Whether you’re here for Princeton University business, exploring central New Jersey, or just want a sophisticated weekend getaway that’s close enough to New York and Philadelphia but feels worlds away, The Peacock Inn delivers. It’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly — from check-in to checkout — leaving you to focus on why you came to Princeton in the first place.

The bed is very comfortable.
Their rooms are for 2 people, so we needed to make a reservation for 2 rooms. It costs very expensive; however, the rooms are connected with double doors. That is very wonderful for my family,Subhani from Sri Lanka (8/10)
