Hotel Scherman Overview
You know what struck me first about Hotel Scherman? It’s tucked into this stretch of 46th Street where you’re literally surrounded by Broadway theaters, but somehow it doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. I mean, you’ll definitely hear the energy from the street – this is Hell’s Kitchen after all – but once you’re inside, there’s this surprisingly calm vibe that I honestly wasn’t expecting. The lobby has this understated elegance thing going on, sort of like someone’s well-traveled aunt decorated it with actual taste instead of hiring some corporate design firm. Check-in was smooth too, which matters when you’ve been dragging luggage through Midtown crowds.
What really gets me about this place is how it sits right in the sweet spot of the neighborhood. You’re a block from Restaurant Row (though honestly, some of the best eats are the little spots on 9th Avenue that the concierge actually knows about), and you can walk to Times Square in like five minutes when you absolutely have to – but you can also escape back to your room when the chaos gets overwhelming. The rooms themselves are well thought out in that New York way where every inch counts. Good blackout curtains, which you’ll appreciate since the city never really sleeps, and the beds are actually comfortable, not just hotel-comfortable. I noticed they’ve got decent water pressure in the showers too, which sounds boring but trust me, after a day of walking around the city, it matters.
The staff seems to get that most people staying here are either seeing shows or exploring the neighborhood, so they’re helpful without being pushy about it. They’ll point you toward the good pizza place around the corner (it’s on 9th, not the obvious touristy one) and they actually know the subway situation, which is more valuable than you’d think. Parking’s typical for the area – meaning expensive and annoying – but the hotel can arrange something if you’re driving in. The whole place just feels like it’s run by people who understand what travelers actually need rather than what some manual says they should want. With that 9.2 rating, I get why people keep coming back here. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying in New York, not just visiting it.

The room was nice, bathroom is great. The bed was very comfortable. View was amazing especially from the roof. Breakfast was good. The hotel location is great.
Pauline from United Kingdom (10/10)
Hotel was clean, breakfast was just about right, not too heavy just enough to get you up and out. The rooms aren’t big(like most hotels in NYC) but it was perfectly formed, clean and had all you needed(fridge, microwave, hot plate, coffee/tea maker and a separate wee sink in the room). Also you can get to the bar from the hotel, which had a great atmosphere.

From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into a cozy, European-inspired space. The décor exudes class, with modern touches woven seamlessly into its old-world charm. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated with boutique furnishings, soft tones, and rich textures, creating a warm yet sophisticated ambiance. It’s an Instagram dream without feeling pretentious—cozy meets chic!
