Hyatt Herald Square New York Overview

You know what struck me first about the Hyatt Herald Square? It’s actually in NoMad, not Herald Square proper – which honestly works in its favor. You get that classic New York hotel vibe without the absolute chaos of being right on top of Macy’s and all those tourists taking selfies with the giant red bags.

The building itself sits on West 31st, and I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Penn Station (which sounds terrible but is actually incredibly convenient if you’re coming in from JFK on the LIRR or heading out to the Hamptons). The lobby has this sort of understated elegance – not trying too hard to be the hippest place in Manhattan, but definitely not stuck in 1987 either. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood when I asked about good coffee spots nearby. They pointed me toward this little place on 28th that I never would’ve found otherwise.

What really sells this place, though, is how it sits right in that sweet spot between Midtown South energy and downtown cool. You’ve got the High Line a fifteen-minute walk south, Madison Square Garden practically around the corner (which means great subway access but also means some nights get a bit loud when there’s a big concert – just something to keep in mind). The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star Hyatt – clean lines, good lighting, and thank god, outlets where you actually need them. The beds are legitimately comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the bathrooms have that nice subway tile thing going on that feels very New York without being gimmicky.

I stayed there during Fashion Week last September, and while the lobby got pretty hectic with all the industry folks coming and going, it never felt overwhelming. The elevators are fast – which matters more than you think when you’re running late for dinner reservations in the Village. One thing I appreciated was how quiet the rooms stay despite being in such a busy area. You get that gentle hum of the city that makes you feel like you’re really in New York, but you can actually sleep through the night.

The location really shines when you want to explore different neighborhoods. You’re close enough to walk to Chelsea Market on a nice day, the Flatiron Building is right there for your obligatory tourist photo, and getting to SoHo or the Upper East Side is genuinely easy from here. Plus – and this is huge if you’re not from the city – there’s actually decent parking options nearby if you’re crazy enough to drive in Manhattan.

Honestly, for the price point and the 8.1 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises. It’s not going to blow your mind or become the highlight of your trip, but it’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly, and you can focus on actually enjoying New York instead of dealing with hotel drama. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The Position of the Hotel was great. Newar Broadway with the 34th Street Underground very close. The Hotel was closed to the famous "Time Square". The staff was very polite and kind, there was only a problem on the Payment because My credit card had a daily plafond in USA that was not enough to pay in 1 way the transaction. I had to use another card to split the payments in 2 parts.
