Andaz 5th Avenue, By Hyatt Overview

You know what struck me first about the Andaz 5th Avenue? Walking through that lobby actually feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly well-designed apartment – if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited funds. It’s right there on 5th Avenue between 41st and 42nd, which means you’re literally in the thick of everything without feeling like you’re drowning in Times Square chaos (thank god, because that’s just a few blocks south and honestly, it’s a lot).

The whole place has this understated cool thing going on – I mean, it’s Hyatt’s boutique brand, so they’re trying to be the anti-corporate hotel, and it mostly works. The rooms are these clean, modern spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open, which is rarer than you’d think in Manhattan. If you’re on a higher floor facing west, you’ll get glimpses of the Hudson River, though honestly, the street views are pretty fascinating too. You can watch the whole 5th Avenue parade from up there. The bathrooms are spa-like with those rainfall showers, and here’s a detail that matters – the water pressure is actually decent, not the sad trickle you sometimes get in older NYC hotels.

What I really appreciate is how they handle the whole New York hotel thing without making you feel gouged at every turn. The minibar situation is reasonable (well, reasonable for midtown Manhattan), and they don’t charge you fifteen bucks for WiFi like some places still do. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – when I asked about getting to the Tenement Museum downtown, the front desk guy gave me actual subway directions instead of just suggesting a $40 taxi ride. Speaking of location, you’re a five-minute walk from Bryant Park, which is perfect for morning coffee or afternoon people-watching, and Grand Central is right there when you need to escape to other parts of the city. The whole area gets pretty quiet after business hours, so you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM.

I’ll be honest – it’s not going to blow your mind or change your life, but that 8.2 rating feels about right. It’s solid, well-run, and positioned perfectly if you want to feel like you’re staying in the real New York without sacrificing comfort. The rooftop bar is decent for a drink, though it gets packed during happy hour with the after-work crowd from all those nearby offices. One small thing that bugged me – the elevators can be painfully slow during busy times, which is pretty much every weekday morning and evening. But honestly? For a four-star place in this location, you could do a lot worse. It’s the kind of hotel that just works, you know? No drama, no unpleasant surprises, just a really solid base for exploring the city.

The location was nice. Stayed Sat night until Sun. Was able to park right in front of the hotel since street parking on Sunday was able. The rooms were better than i thought. It's just that the bathroom was little too big for the room and too many doors for entering bathroom. No locks was bad. The showers were amazing but not having door kind of got me restrained from washing because the waters splashing on the floor. Another thing was the BED. I had very hard time sleeping. Bed was too soft and bad mattress. With the price of room I paid, I thought it could do better mattresses.

  • Louise from United Kingdom (9/10)

Fantastic room with views over the public library, empire state and Bryant park. We stayed as a family of 4 and had the best time in the 2-bedroom suite. The staff were lovely and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. We stayed for 1 week and could have stayed longer. Definitely recommend.
