Nolitan Hotel SoHo – New York Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Nolitan? It’s actually tucked away on this quieter stretch of Kenmare Street where you’re not constantly dodging tourists with shopping bags, but you’re still right in the thick of everything SoHo has to offer. I mean, you step out the front door and Prince Street is literally around the corner with all those cast-iron buildings and boutiques, but the hotel itself sits on a block that feels almost… residential? Well, as residential as SoHo gets anyway.
The lobby has this understated thing going on – sort of minimalist but warm, if that makes sense. None of that over-the-top marble situation you get at some Manhattan hotels. What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about grabbing coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the desk person immediately pointed me toward Balthazar (obviously) but also mentioned this little spot on Spring Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are honestly what you’d expect for a solid four-star in this part of town – not huge, because come on, it’s Manhattan, but thoughtfully laid out. The windows actually open, which is rarer than you’d think in newer hotels, and if you’re facing the right direction, you get these glimpses of the neighborhood’s fire escapes and rooftops that somehow feel very authentically New York.
Here’s the thing about staying in SoHo though – and the Nolitan gets this right – you’re positioning yourself perfectly for both the downtown art scene and easy access uptown, but you’re also dealing with weekend crowds that can be pretty intense. The hotel’s location on Kenmare means you can duck down to Little Italy for dinner (it’s literally a five-minute walk to Lombardi’s) or head the other direction toward the Lower East Side without fighting through the worst of the shopping chaos. I stayed there during a particularly busy weekend in October, and while the streets were packed during the day, the hotel itself stayed surprisingly quiet – I think because it’s just off the main drag. The 7.9 rating honestly feels about right. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s solid, the location is fantastic if you want to explore downtown properly, and the staff knows their stuff. Plus, you can walk to the subway in about three minutes, which in SoHo real estate terms is basically hitting the jackpot.

The staff is awesome. I reserved a room for my parents last year, I notice how good they were and wanted to stay in the same place this year.

For New York standards, this place offers great value for money! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean and well-maintained. The location is super convenient with lots of cafés and bodegas close by. Chinatown and Soho are an easy walk. The wifi was reliable, making it easy to handle calls and get work done. If you're sensitive to noise, bring earplugs (true for any hotel in NYC).
