New York Marriott Downtown Overview

So I’ve stayed at the New York Marriott Downtown a bunch of times over the years, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The location on West Street is actually pretty brilliant – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy or chaotic like you’d expect. I mean, you’re in the Financial District, so weekdays can get pretty corporate-heavy in the lobby, but weekends are surprisingly chill.

The thing about this Marriott is that it feels more intimate than those massive Midtown hotels where you feel like cattle being herded around. The lobby has this warm, almost residential vibe – dark wood, comfortable seating where you can actually work on your laptop without feeling like you’re camping out. Check-in is usually smooth, though I’ve noticed they get slammed around 3 PM when the business crowd rolls in. Pro tip: if you’re arriving then, grab a coffee from the lobby café and people-watch for a bit. The rooms themselves are solid Marriott standard – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but the beds are genuinely comfortable and the bathrooms are updated. You know what I really appreciate? The windows actually open (well, sort of – they crack enough to get real air), which is rare in newer NYC hotels.

Location-wise, you’re golden if you want to explore lower Manhattan without the Times Square insanity. Stone Street’s historic cobblestones and all those little pubs are maybe a ten-minute walk – perfect for dinner when you want something with character. The subway situation is decent too; you’ve got the R and W at Rector Street practically next door, though honestly, walking to Brooklyn Bridge or even SoHo is totally doable if the weather’s nice. One heads up though – West Street can get pretty windy, especially in winter. It’s that whole river-effect thing. And while the hotel itself is quiet, you’ll hear some traffic noise if you’re facing the street side, but nothing that’ll keep you up unless you’re a really light sleeper. The staff here actually remembers you if you stay regularly, which is refreshing in a city where you’re usually just another room number. It’s not the fanciest place in the city – that 7.6 rating feels about right – but there’s something reliable and unpretentious about it that I keep coming back to.

  • Péter from United Kingdom (9/10)

The hotel was in a good location. We mostly used metro and the hotel was only few minutes walk from the station. Also only 2-3 minutes walk from 9/11.
Very close to Wall Street and Brooklyn Bridge.
The restaurant in the hotel was great.

  • Craig from United States (9/10)

I liked that our stay included breakfast, discounted dinners, hop on-hop off tour, and bicycle access. Nearly everything was great!

  • Marisol from Mexico (9/10)

    Location and cleanliness

  • Evelyn from Singapore (9/10)

Convenient location. Many train stations nearby that travel to upper Manhattan and even to Brooklyn. Safe because near the World Trade Center. It’s also peaceful and quiet at night as it’s in the financial district. Nearby is Battery Park where you can see the Statue of Liberty without taking the ferry.

Room is very spacious for a family of 4 with 2 teenage kids.

  • Marika from Cayman Islands (8/10)

    everything was as advertised.
