Aliz Hotel Times Square Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Aliz when I first walked up to it on 40th Street – honestly, there are so many hotels crammed into this part of Hell’s Kitchen that they all start to blur together. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby hits you with this warm, almost residential vibe that feels nothing like those sterile chain hotels you see everywhere in Midtown. It’s got character without trying too hard, if that makes sense.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re in the real New York without being stuck in the tourist bubble. You’re literally a few blocks from all the Times Square madness when you want it, but then you can duck back to this quieter stretch of 40th where actual New Yorkers live and work. I mean, there’s a fantastic little Greek place called Ammos right around the corner that most visitors never find, and you’re walking distance to the High Line entrance at 30th Street – which, let me tell you, is way less crowded than the main entrance everyone uses. The neighborhood gets this great energy in the evenings when the restaurant workers are heading home and the theater crowd is just starting to stir.
What really got me about the Aliz was the attention to small things that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere for more than one night. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Manhattan, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with actual storage space and outlets where you need them. The windows are surprisingly good at blocking out street noise, which is crucial because 40th Street does get some traffic. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or pushy upselling, and the front desk staff actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give solid restaurant recommendations beyond the usual tourist traps. The building itself has this solid, established feel – you can tell it’s been around and has seen the neighborhood evolve. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with a story, not just crashing in a generic box. For a 4-star spot in this part of town, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any of the pretension.

The location was fab, as it's New York everything is a little small but the room was a good size, the bar and snack shop were well supplied even being small, the bar man new his cocktails. you can ask for more water for the room at reception and your can leave your bags as they have a locked room, plenty of places to eat around from the $1 pizza to whatever takes your fancy.
