Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel on Rivington, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The Lower East Side has this weird mix of old-school tenements and shiny new developments, and this place sort of sits right in that sweet spot between the two. The building itself is this sleek glass tower that somehow doesn’t feel completely out of place among the vintage storefronts and fire escapes that define Rivington Street.

What actually surprised me was how the hotel manages to feel both modern and connected to the neighborhood’s gritty charm. The lobby’s got this minimalist thing going on, but you can still hear the authentic LES buzz filtering in from the street – I mean, you’re literally steps from Katz’s Deli and all those late-night spots that make this area legendary. The rooms are definitely contemporary (think floor-to-ceiling windows with some pretty incredible city views), though honestly, the 7.1 rating makes sense when you consider that service can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on when you catch them. I’ve stayed here twice now, and the first time check-in was smooth as butter, but the second visit… well, let’s just say they seemed a bit overwhelmed during what must have been a busy weekend.

Here’s what I really appreciate though – the location is absolutely perfect if you want to experience the real New York without paying Midtown prices. You’re walking distance to some of the city’s best late-night eats (Clinton St. Baking Company is literally around the corner for those weekend brunch situations), and the subway connections are actually pretty solid – Essex-Delancey station gets you basically anywhere you need to go. The neighborhood gets lively, sure, but it’s not obnoxiously loud most nights. I’d say if you’re a light sleeper, maybe request a room facing away from the street action, especially on weekends when the bars stay busy until closing time. The hotel itself feels like it attracts a good mix of travelers – not just tourists, but people who actually want to stay somewhere with character rather than another generic chain property. You know what really sealed it for me? Standing in my room on the 12th floor, looking out over the Manhattan Bridge and the East River, realizing I was paying way less than I would for a similar view in SoHo or Tribeca. It’s not perfect – the elevators are sometimes slow, and room service options are limited – but there’s something genuinely cool about waking up in this part of the city and having authentic New York right outside your door.

  Beautiful views. Very professional staff, the ladies at the front desk were lovely. Kind of has a hotel Cortez sort of vibe but in a good way. Good location with lots to do, right next to the Delancey sub stop.
