You know what struck me first about the Fitzpatrick Grand Central? It’s got this whole Irish charm thing going on that somehow works perfectly in Midtown Manhattan – and I mean, that’s not easy to pull off when you’re literally across from Grand Central Terminal. The lobby has these rich wood panels and Celtic touches that feel warm rather than cheesy, which honestly surprised me given how many themed hotels just go overboard.

The location is pretty incredible if you think about it. You’re on 44th between Lex and Third, so you’ve got the terminal right there (obviously), but you’re also walking distance to Bryant Park, the Chrysler Building is practically in your backyard, and – here’s something most people don’t realize – you can actually cut through Grand Central’s dining concourse to get to tons of places without dealing with street-level crowds. I’ve stayed here during both busy conference season and quieter winter months, and the staff genuinely seems to know their regulars, which says something about a place this size. The rooms aren’t huge by any stretch (it’s Manhattan, what do you expect?), but they’re thoughtfully laid out with these surprisingly comfortable beds and decent soundproofing – though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe request something higher up since 44th Street does get some truck traffic early morning.

What really sets this place apart is the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The elevators are quick, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and there’s this cozy bar called Fitzer’s that locals use for after-work drinks, not just hotel guests. The fitness center is small but functional, and honestly, the concierge team knows their stuff – they steered me toward this amazing little Italian place on 45th that I never would’ve found otherwise. Room service comes up hot, which seems basic but you’d be amazed how many places mess that up. My only real complaint is that the air conditioning can be a bit inconsistent, and parking nearby will cost you (though there’s a garage on 45th if you absolutely need it). The breakfast situation is solid – not spectacular, but definitely better than grabbing something from a street cart. Overall, it feels like staying with that well-traveled uncle who has good taste but isn’t trying to impress anyone, if that makes sense.

  We booked this hotel because of its incredible location. We were so wonderfully surprised at what an amazing overall experience it was. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendlier, and they had great recommendations too. The room was much bigger than I expected for a room in NYC, and it was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel. It really made our trip so lovely.

  Convenient location, decent size room and bathroom, very polite and cheerful staff, efficient processes. Good breakfast, quick if need be and very kind staff. Due to being a not very tall building, elevator waiting times were very good. Room was quiet as I had asked, since it was facing walls on both windows – which I accept, can't have it all! However on two afternoons there was a lot of noise and music till 11pm apparently from a nearby roof terrace bar or similar. Everything was functional (except the a/c as per negative points paragraph). Overall I'd say it's an "efficient" hotel for a business stay.

  Location right next to Grand Central is great, direct access to Train and Subway perfect to discover different parts of the City. Also 5th Ave and Broadway in walking distance. The hotel is not as noisy as many other Manhattan hotels. We didn't hear any trucks etc
