Aura Hotel Times Square Newly Renovated Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Aura Hotel Times Square? It actually feels like a proper hotel despite being smack in the middle of tourist chaos. I mean, when I first walked up to 120 West 44th Street, I was bracing myself for another cramped midtown box with paper-thin walls and the smell of hot dogs wafting through the lobby. But honestly, this place surprised me.
The “newly renovated” part isn’t just marketing speak – you can tell they actually put thought into the redesign instead of just slapping some fresh paint on outdated furniture. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, and here’s the thing that impressed me most: the soundproofing is legit. I stayed on the 8th floor and could barely hear the Broadway crowd noise that usually makes Times Square hotels unbearable after 10 PM. The rooms themselves are well, not huge (this is Manhattan after all), but they’re smart about the space. Good lighting, decent-sized bathroom, and – thank god – outlets where you actually need them.
Location-wise, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Times Square subway hub, which sounds like hell but is actually convenient as anything. Bryant Park is right there when you need to escape the madness, and if you’re into the theater thing, you’re walking distance from pretty much everything. I grabbed coffee most mornings at this little place on 43rd Street (Joe Coffee, if you’re curious) and could be back in my room in under five minutes. The hotel staff seems to get that most guests are either here for shows or business meetings, so check-in is refreshingly efficient – no trying to upsell you on overpriced restaurant reservations or spa treatments. One small thing that bugged me: the elevator can get pretty crowded during peak hours, but honestly, that’s par for the course in this neighborhood. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s a solid choice that delivers what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad. For a 4-star place in Times Square, you’re getting decent value, especially considering you’re not paying Plaza Hotel prices but you’re also not dealing with questionable plumbing or mystery stains on the carpet.

The staff were really friendly and super helpful. The location of the hotel is really handy, and despite being off Time's Square wasn't very noisy. There's a bar next door called the Long Room, which we didn't realise was part of the hotel, but it's really nice too. Room was clean and the toiletries and facilities were very good.
