Residence Inn New York Downtown Manhattan/Financial District Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Residence Inn on Pearl Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The Financial District can feel pretty dead after business hours, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby’s got this warm, residential vibe that immediately makes you forget you’re in the middle of Manhattan’s most corporate neighborhood. Check-in was smooth, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.
What really won me over, though, is how they’ve nailed the extended-stay concept without making it feel like you’re living in a glorified office building. The suites – and they’re all suites here – have proper kitchens with full-size fridges, which honestly saved my wallet since eating out in this part of town gets expensive fast. I mean, you’re walking distance from Stone Street’s restaurant scene (definitely hit up Ulysses if you like a good beer), but sometimes you just want to make coffee in your pajamas without paying $6 for it downstairs. The rooms themselves feel more like a friend’s really nice apartment than a hotel – comfortable couches, decent workspace if you need to get stuff done, and thank god, blackout curtains that actually work. You’d think being on Pearl Street would be noisy, but the windows do a solid job keeping the city sounds to a manageable hum.
Here’s what I really appreciated – they get that people staying here are probably working or need to feel somewhat normal while they’re in the city. The complimentary breakfast isn’t just sad continental fare; we’re talking actual hot food that’ll fuel you for a day of walking around. And speaking of walking, you’re literally a few blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge (perfect for those Instagram shots everyone expects), South Street Seaport when you want to pretend you’re not in a concrete jungle, and the subway connections are solid – the 4, 5, 6 trains at Fulton Street will get you pretty much anywhere. One small thing that bugged me: the elevators can be slow during busy times, but honestly, that’s typical for older buildings in this part of Manhattan. The neighborhood itself transforms completely depending on when you’re there – weekdays it’s all suits rushing around, but evenings and weekends it gets surprisingly peaceful. For a 4-star place with an 8.2 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. If you need a home base in Lower Manhattan that doesn’t feel like you’re staying in a corporate hotel, this is your spot.

Nice breakfast and compared to most other hotels a very well equipped gym with cables, 3 benches, some kettlebells, lots of cardio machines, … dumbbells sadly only go to 50 lbs but that's a minor issue

The breakfast was good, nothing spectacular. The veggie sausage was rather tasty and the croissants were fresh baked each day. The dining room atmosphere was great as well. Breakfast staff was pleasant, personable and attentive. I did thoroughly enjoy the outside patio and the workout facility. The laundry facilities were great as well only cost $1 to wash and $1 to dry and my clothes were actually clean haha. Housekeeping staff was phenomenal so much so that I gave tips. I told the young lady that my sheets were fine, but she insisted I have my sheets changed lol…Reception area great as well. Overall I felt safe.
