Hotel 50 Bowery, part of JdV by Hyatt Overview
So I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Hotel 50 Bowery, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address puts you right in the thick of Chinatown, which let’s face it, isn’t exactly where you’d picture a sleek Hyatt property. But walking up to this place, you realize they’ve done something pretty interesting here. The building itself has this industrial-chic thing going on that somehow fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s gritty energy, and honestly? It works way better than it should.
The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re literally steps from the Manhattan Bridge (great for those Instagram shots, by the way), and the whole area has this authentic New York vibe that most hotels in touristy spots just can’t touch. I mean, you can grab proper dim sum at Nom Wah Tea Parlor – which has been around since 1920 – before most other places even serve breakfast. The subway situation is solid too; you’ve got multiple lines within walking distance, so getting to Midtown or Brooklyn is no big deal. Just know that this part of the city can get pretty lively, especially on weekends when the night market scene picks up along East Broadway.
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to create this calm, almost zen-like space inside while being surrounded by all the chaos of lower Manhattan. The rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of light, and the design feels modern without being sterile – sort of like staying in a really well-designed apartment rather than a typical hotel room. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for New York standards, which anyone who’s traveled here knows is saying something. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being on a busy street; they clearly invested in good soundproofing. The rooftop situation is worth mentioning too – you get these sweeping views of the city that make you feel like you’re in on some kind of secret that most tourists never discover.
Look, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea if you’re looking for that classic New York hotel experience with a doorman in white gloves. But if you want to actually feel like you’re staying in the city rather than just visiting it, and you appreciate being somewhere with a bit of edge and personality, this place hits the mark. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood and can point you toward hole-in-the-wall spots you’d never find otherwise. Plus, with that 8.6 rating, it’s clear I’m not the only one who thinks they’re onto something here.

The location was excellent. Within close walking distance to a few different subway stations. The rooms were nicely decorated with a neat vibe, fairly spacious, and very comfortable. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was excellent. The coffee and tea available on the 2nd floor was nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Always an excellent experience at the Hotel 50 Bowery. Rooms have amazing views, and we were treated to a bottle of Prosecco as we were celebrating our anniversary. We appreciate the hotel’s management and attention to detail.

Everything! Amazing location – walkable into Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, LES.. SO clean, and hospitable. We arrived way earlier than expected and were able to check in early for a small fee. Very comfortable bed, friendly staff (particularly the rooftop bar staff!)

Roman from Israel (8/10)
A good hotel, very convenient location in Chinatown. Felt comfortable and safe walking around day and night, we especially liked the markets on Mott St. For the subway we used the Canal station, it was the cleanest in the area.
The room was clean and the service was efficient. Another nice touch – the gym was great.Patricia from United States (9/10)
