The Cloud One New York-Downtown, by the Motel One Group Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a Motel One property in Manhattan – I mean, the name alone had me thinking roadside vibes. But walking into The Cloud One on Greenwich Street, you’re hit with this unexpectedly sleek lobby that feels more Brooklyn boutique than chain hotel. The whole place has this minimalist thing going on, lots of clean lines and that signature turquoise they use throughout, which actually works better than it sounds.
What really sold me on this spot is the location – you’re basically in the heart of the Financial District, but not in that touristy Times Square chaos way. Stone Street’s literally around the corner (grab a beer at Ulysses if you’re into that scene), and you can walk to the 9/11 Memorial without dealing with subway delays. The staff mentioned that most guests don’t realize how close South Street Seaport is until they’re wandering around after dinner. I ended up there myself, just following the crowds toward the water. The rooms are… well, they’re compact, but honestly what isn’t in this part of the city? They’ve made smart use of the space though – everything has a purpose, nothing feels cramped. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and here’s something I always notice: the shower pressure was actually decent, which you can’t take for granted in older NYC buildings.
You know what impressed me most? The whole operation just runs smoothly. Check-in was quick, the elevators weren’t constantly packed (looking at you, midtown hotels), and the WiFi actually worked properly. The bar downstairs gets busy around 7 PM with the after-work crowd – mostly finance types grabbing drinks before heading to Brooklyn or wherever – but it’s not obnoxiously loud. Actually creates a nice energy if you’re into people-watching. Parking is… well, it’s downtown Manhattan, so forget about it unless you want to pay $50 a night at a garage a few blocks away. But honestly, you don’t need a car here anyway. The 4, 5, 6 trains are right there at Bowling Green, and you can walk to most of the major downtown attractions. I noticed they get a lot of business travelers during the week (makes sense with all the financial firms nearby), but weekends bring more tourists exploring the area. The whole vibe shifts depending on when you’re there. Sure, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but for the price point and location, it delivers exactly what it promises – a clean, comfortable base in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, without any of the pretentious nonsense you get at some of the pricier downtown options.

Gabriel from Brazil (9/10)
Great hotel, it’s new (2 years) and well located near the metro and WTC. Cleaning was very good.
Monique from Netherlands (8/10)
Nice location close to 9 11 memorial. with plenty of metro subway lines. Also very close to a shopping center. Size of room for new york was very reasonable with a king bed, and very quiet – noise cancellation. Would certainly recommend, less than 20-25 min from time square with public transport. Reliable wifi and they keep your luggage in storiage for free!
